Ka Chun Chung (b. 1986, Hong Kong) is a London-based multidisciplinary artist working across painting, sculpture, kinetic installation, sound and technology. His practice investigates material agency, object performativity and the affective relationships between bodies, objects and space. Emerging from an expanded painting practice, his work considers how memory can be carried through material tension, movement, friction, sound and deterioration.

Working with hook-and-loop materials, Chung reconstructs familiar everyday objects as static sculptures, transforming their surfaces and disrupting their expected functions. These objects form a world of entanglement in which attachment becomes both a means of connection and a condition of constraint. In his kinetic and sonic assemblages, motors, found objects, musical components and electronic systems bring materials into interdependent relationships: they become entangled, struggle to detach and act upon one another. Chung approaches these objects as performers whose irregular rhythms, unpredictable movements and varying durations generate contingent situations. His sculptures evoke the body through its apparent absence while examining how control is distributed across human and non-human participants.

Chung is currently developing Quasi Orchestra, an evolving ensemble of static, kinetic and sonic sculptures whose compositions emerge through material interaction and audience activity. Incorporating sensing technologies, the project investigates how audience movement, proximity and density can become a dynamic score that continually reorganises the installation’s rhythms and sonic relationships.

Chung completed an MFA in Fine Art at Goldsmiths, University of London, in 2025, following a BA (Hons) in Visual Arts at Hong Kong Baptist University. He also studied in Bologna and developed his expanded painting practice while living in Berlin. His work has been exhibited in Hong Kong, London, Berlin, Athens and Reading.
